What I’m Reading

Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee

Free Food For Millionaires offers up a fresh exploration of the complex layers we inhabit both in society and within ourselves. Inspired by 19th century novels such as Vanity Fair and Middlemarch, Min Jin Lee examines maintaining one’s identity within changing communities in what is her remarkably assured debut.

The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo
Mark Nepo is my new favorite teacher, philosopher, and poet. I feel alive in his writings on the art of living close to your own personal truth, how to stay close to those things that really matter, that make you feel most alive.

What I’m Listening To

Jonathan Van Ness with Dax Shepard on Transgender Youth in Sports
Jonathan joins the Armchair Expert to discuss the idea of older women having younger sexual partners, dealing with skin issues, and how news organizations choose political sides. Jonathan and Dax talk about transgender participation in sports, what it means to challenge progressive ideas, and how state laws around gender-affirming care can differ. Jonathan explains why judging in cheerleading is not objective, what the motivation was to start a science-based podcast, and how relationships can truly grow.

The Lovingtons
For the most heart uplifting music please check out the Lovingtons. This is my late husband’s band and dear friend’s wedding whom I got to go to in the Bahamas. Globe-trotting do-gooders amazing people who travel the world gifting their music and art to people who need it. I highly recommend checking them out for a boost of soul warmth.

What I’m Watching

James Acaster: Repertoire (Netflix stand-up comedy special)- I needed to find this guy, SO funny, I laugh at every single joke!

The Dawn Wall–  This movie inspired me to think about so many things like resilience and the human spirit but most importantly, the courageous choice to choose heart connection over self vicotory. Totally amazing film.
