About Katy
Katy Canete, LMT (she/her)
I am in awe of the human spirit and how we move through life in it’s vast ups and downs, the physical, the energetic, the mental, emotional sides of us that can heal, repair and renew at every step along the way when it’s the right time and when we have the right kind of inspiration, support and nurturing.
I am a mother, a widow, now a step-mama and business owner for 17 years. I am a white bodied, cisgendered, female identified woman who grew up both in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. I was married to a Chilean immigrant (hence my last name) who died suddenly at the age of 37 here in Seattle. I own the depths of repair and healing that it’s taken me over these last ten years to find my center over and over again. To reinvent my life and what is important to me at every step and to see life through different lenses at every turn. “Doing my best” is always an evolving concept, always a mystery to discover, and rediscover again.
If you are wondering, my friends describe me as warm, loving, open, playful, friendly, sweet and wise. I bring warmth into the room and create spaces that feel like home. My partner also describes me as… firey and overwhelming. haha. I’m all the things, that’s me:)
Most recently, I have become a teacher of the Somatic Awareness work that has been the cornerstone of my own trauma and grief healing for many years. Somatic Awareness gives me the ability to not only live from my “magic” but to have greater presence in my life, to see my challenges, habits and sticky spots from a place of love and to have greater choice in how I choose each step forward. What is my body telling me, what do I need? Through this work, I feel alive and in love with my life. Somatics has brought me calm, confidence, empowerment and self love and I’m delighted to share it with you.
I do trauma focused healing with a background in Strozzi Somatics, Somatic Experiencing and Bodymind Coaching as well as studies in Hakomi and Mindful Self-Compassion.
In this life, you might want to simply move steadily and painlessly towards what you want: more joy, more energy, more aliveness. That path feels clear as day. AND the truth is, it just isn’t easy to be human. It’s not. In part because there is no steady, fixed path, things are always changing. Humanness is so much about navigating that constant of change. How do you handle change, transitions, the hard stuff?
There is so much beauty and richness in life and also so much that can take you off track from what feels right for you and so many moments where you must pause, fall apart, heal and wonder. And sometimes you can just feel really, really stuck. There are so many wild wonders and so many incredibly painful things that we collect over a lifetime. At times any of this can feel like a full stop and a very long road ahead. Sometimes you need to feel it all, cry, write a poem, call a friend, take a walk, find solitude. And sometimes it’s the right time to take the next step forward. It’s time to find the teacher, the book or healing space, maybe dust off that lesson you learned, dig back up one of those old tools and just try again, but now maybe in a different way from a different place.
If that is your time, my friend, I’ve got you. I get you. I’m here. I see you.
I help people get back to “being their best” in their lives in every way; physically, mentally, emotionally: Somatically.
